How to use spinners the right way?

Spinner spin for an infinite number of times. They don’t tell you when they will stop.

If used for long load times, it will make your users wonder if the internet connection is off or if the app isn’t working.

Users need live feedback for what’s happening and not the promise of a never-ending spin.

You need to use spinners for short processes, like refreshing the page, that takes somewhere around 0.5–4 secs.

Anything smaller than 0.5 secs doesn’t need feedback and anything above 4 secs needs strong feedback.

You also need to tell users if the process failed or is taking longer than usual instead of them figuring it out.

What do you say?
